North Bay Thunderbirds

CT-33 Swim Club

History of our team

The Canadian Forces Base North Bay (CFB North Bay) is home to the Thunderbirds. The Base is operated by Air Command (AIRCOM) and its primary lodger is 22 Wing, thus the base is sometimes referred to as 22 Wing North Bay.  The club was founded by George Holmes in 1988, who continued to serve as a Technical and Senior Coach until 1996.

The Thunderbirds became a member of Swim Ontario on January 14, 1989.  The Club call letters CT-33 are named for the Canadian Trainer (Thunderbird) plane that was used at CFB North Bay. The team logo was designed by a former T-Bird swimmer Ryan Laishley in 1995.

The team is led by Head Coach Pierre Simard.  He is only the fifth Head Coach in the club's history, joining in 1997. The Thunderbirds are home to excellence in coaching staff, with Penny Lecour at the top.  From champion swimmers to technical experts,  they are dedicated to the team and to supporting our kids in and out of the pool.

The coaching team strives for personal and athletic development which focuses on achieving results.  Our club is one of the few in Ontario that has volunteer coaches which has allowed our team to keep its costs down, thereby making it an affordable sport.

The Club

The Thunderbirds Swim Club consists of three competitive levels - Bronze, Silver, and Gold.  This enables swimmers of different ages and experience to excel in the sport. Through a positive development and competitive environment, all swimmers can realize their potential to achieve their athletic and personal goals, build strong team relationships and have fun!  Contact us for more information (on left).
